Benrinnes / 2009 / Berry Bros & Rudd / Cask 310110 / 52.9% / 70cl
Benrinnes is something of a chameleon among Scotch whisky distilleries, producing a variety of different styles over the years due to changes in production technique. The distillery itself, founded in 1826, has survived both fires and flooding as well as financial problems and two closures.
A classic speyside with a rich aromatic nose and deliciously complex palate.
Nose: Breakfast waffles, vanilla ice cream and soft sweet citrus tones add to this rather enjoyable nose. Fresh bakery aromas , cinnamon with a delicate all spice before a soft fruity red apple note.
Palate: Toffee with crispy rice and milk chocolate, some dram fruits a tangy spice arrives to push through some lemon and berries. Ripe dates, hints of pecans and icing sugar coated candy. A nice full bodied mid palate with a peach melba note and deliciously rich fruits and hard toffee take us to a superb finish.
