Bunnahabhain Unpeated 28 Year Old / 1990 / Islay Porridge / Wemyss / 46.2% / 70cl
Bunnahabhain stopped peating its whisky in the 1960s, making it unique among Islay distilleries for producing a whisky more akin to a Speyside style. Until this, the distillery was supplied entirely from the sea as there were no road connections to the rest of the Island.
Bunnahabhain is a spirit suited to long ageing, and shines at a relatively low abv when compared to other malts. This makes it not only approachable but allows the intricate nature of the whisky to be appreciated. This is one of three single casks bottled by Wymess Independent Bottlers and selected for its distinct character.
Nose: Spring freshness with some soft whipped cream and maple syrup, salt and honey with hints of crushed almonds and apple sauce.
Palate: Summer pudding, creamy sweet honey and toffee sauce with coconut flakes with milk chocolate and oats. Some seaweed and vanilla pod, spiced plumbs in syrup, gentle whiffs of smoke linger in the background to the rich golden crisp finish.
