Talisker 57 North 57% 70cl
Until recently the only distillery on the rocky and remote Isle of Skye, Talisker is a heavily protected brand and rarely seen as an independent bottling. The official releases, except for the 57 Degrees North, are all bottled at the distillery's unique 45.8%. Founded in 1830, the whisky is peated to between 22 and 30 ppm and is distinguished by a characteristic pepperiness that's recognisable in most bottlings. Featuring heavily in popular culture, Talisker was also the favourite malt of Robert Louis Stevenson.
This distiller's edition was distilled in 2007 and aged in Amoroso Sherry casks, a rare blend of Oloroso and PX sherries similar to a cream sherry.
Nose: Coastal with sea salt, caramel and honey with a rich delicate creamy note, light citrus notes, some spiced sponge cake and tangy notes that liven the nose to perfection.
Palate: That coastal note from the nose hits the front of the palate with hints of toffee apple or seaside rock, clean fresh spices with hints of basil and green apple skins. Some tropical fruits with a hint of sea salt milk chocolate and orange cream.
