An extraordinary release from the celebrated Japanese distillery Yamazaki to mark its centenary. This expression is made using whiskies fully matured for at least 18 years in Mizunara oak casks. It’s incredibly rare to find whisky aged this long in mizunara, casks renowned for their finicky nature and difficulty to work with. They do however impart wondrously complex, elegantly fragrant notes into spirit, and that’s exactly what we’ve got here.
Official tasting notes:
Nose: Rich and elegant top notes of dark cherry and ripe peach, with hints of cinnamon and nutmeg
Palate: Subtly spiced organette with undernotes of Japanese incense
Finish: Long and lingering, accentuated with clove, sandalwood and hints of dried coconut
